My name is Eleanor Sykes,

In January of 2011 I was at my highest weight 275lbs, on six different prescription medications; diagnosed with severe hypertension; pre-diabetic; Hashimoto’sDisease(an autoimmune disorder) and osteoarthritisin both knees. By May of 2011 I was hospitalized for a severe anxiety attack with symptoms mimicking a stroke. I was only 39 years old.  To make matters worse, I was told by my orthopedic doctor that my knees were degenerating faster than expected, and now, I was going to now need bilateral (both) knee replacement surgery. It was in that moment that I decided that I was going to take back control of my life.

With the help of my team of doctors I addressed my issues by; getting in compliance doctor’s orders, I had Lap-Band surgery December 29 2011, monitoring my nutrition, implementing a regular exercise program, learned new ways of coping with the Normal Stresses of life.  I no longer have anxiety. I am no longer on the diabetic spectrum, but I do have bionic knees.  I still have health issues, but…. I was able to “TAKE BACK CONTROL”.

My story has NOT been a journey.  Every journey has a beginning and an end.  Mine is a story of an on-going commitment to a SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLE CHANGE that has positively impacted my life and has given me the tools to share what I have learned with others.
